Ever since I could remember Monopoly has always been one of the best Money Game Boards available in the market. But of course you could also go for other brands. Whichever brand you choose, the concept is still the same. It teaches you how to recognize the different money denominations, how you use it to buy stuff, pay for expenses, or manage your money so you could have enough to last you the entire game. However, you can improvise on the details of the game to suite your learning objective and make the game more fun.
Here are some suggestions on how you could improve the game:
1. Convert the money value into your local currency. Most Money Game Boards, in the market use the USD as the currency. There's nothing wrong with this, but it would be easier for your child to comprehend the concept if you would be using the local currency as denomination, as this would be the currency your child would most likely encounter daily. Play money in your local currency is abundant in toy stores. You can even, buy a toy cash register for effect.
2. Change the monetary values indicated on the game board for variation. Most Game Boards use denominations of 5 or 10, you could also use denominations of 1,2,3,4 and so on.
3. Create game cards or other scenarios to make the game more challenging and exciting.
Take your time and let your child do the actual counting. Always remember that the objective is not to win or speed-up the game. The objective here is to teach your child about the concept of money. Be very patient with your child and don't forget to praise them for the effort. The more you play with your child the more get better at counting money.
