Time truly passes by, just like a breeze our children are rapidly growing up. As much as We'd like them to enjoy their childhood, We have to face the facts that in order to let them grow We have to let them go. As parent's We genuinely want what's best for our children and shield them from all the dangers this world poses. Our children are like sponges, they quick absorb and adapt to what ever stimuli they are exposed to, so We want to filter and limit the whatever We expose our children's to. Television and media has placed a crucial role in influencing our children's behavior and vocabulary. Kids can stare aimlessly at the T.V. for hours and pick-up whatever they see. Television has now become their primary role model instead of us parents.
My eldest child is now 5 yrs. old and turning 6 this September. Though We have not formally enrolled him into any traditional schools, We have always made it a point to spend some quality time with him and teach him some basic reading and writing skills. He is very confident and fast learner, that before his 1st Birthday, He already learned to talk even before he learned to walk. We want to further develop his skills without pressuring him, as We wanted him to enjoy learning at his own pace. So We initially enrolled him for play school to interact with other kids and to see how he'd do in a traditional school environment. Though he enjoyed the physical activities and participated actively, We discovered that he had such a short attention span and easily got bored of the activities, thus the idea of putting him through a home study program.
Home schooling was just an idea We had in our minds, and since our was still too young to be enrolled in a traditional school, We just let the idea hang around. We would often ask him if he'd like to go to school already, but the answer was always no. We did want to force him as We wanted him to enjoy school. Not until last year did We truly considered our options and proactively researched for a suitable home school program for child. From our research, We learned about " The Master' Academy". Based on the reviews and input from friends who home school their kids, The Master's Academy had a good solid home study program. They also have their main school in Paranaque, which is favorable to us as We are currently residing in the South. However, as good as they were, We found out that they were not a Catholic School. As a Catholic family, We of course want our children to grow-up with the teachings and values of a Catholic education. So We decided to look around for any other school that has a home study program which offers Catholic education in their curriculum. To The Catholic Filipino Academy was probably the only home study program in the country with Catholic Education in it's curriculum. So after attending their free assessment orientation, We decided to enroll our child in their home study program. It didn't take much to convince us, as We already made a decision to home school our child even before We got there. So the journey to home schooling begins this coming school year.
